I have a deep passion for the natural world that encompasses three contemporary pillars of modern land use: Sustainable Rural land use-Conservation-Rewilding. This philosophical view point has been developed throughout my life, living and working in numerous habitats around the world. This has given me the opportunity to learn first-hand about the impact of humanities activities has had on our beautiful world. Over the last 30 years I have been involved in, or observed, some outstanding efforts by land owners, farmers, foresters and conservation groups to redress the balance between nature and land exploitation and now I want to share these experiences with you all

Rural landscapes

Globally our rural landscapes are disappearing under a sea of concrete and infrastructure development. Even remote scenes such as this are under threat from what I term urbanisation of the rural environment by renewable energy projects. I  will explore, and try to encourage a balanced approach to conserving rural landscapes.

Global flora

Across the world native flora, from the simple mosses, lichens, ferns through to the higher plants are disappearing  fast. Of particular interest to many is the excessive logging of tropical trees. This is probably never going to stop but there are techniques that can be employed to reduce the impact of logging. I will explore strategies for conserving global flora.

Agriculture and conflicts

Every year the human population increases by 81 million people. This puts constant pressure on food production systems to meet the demand. This can be achieved in many ways but often includes land clearance and conversion to agricultural crops. I aim to illustrate a more holistic approach to food production systems and the conservation of natural habitats that pass through or neighbour onto crop lands.

My aim

To report on agriculture and conservation projects from both the temperate and tropical regions and disseminate examples of high impacting change in agricultural practice and  conservation work

Discover Agriculture and the Rural Landscape
Globally agriculture is a major land user and one that is essential for our food supply. The industry contributes significant levels of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and consumes large quantities of agrochemicals to produce our food supply.

Explore Conservation Projects
The range of conservation projects across the world are numerous and vary in their aims and objectives. Examples include National Parks, RAMSAR sites, Wildflower and Wet Meadow projects. Often these projects take place outside of the agricultural landscape, but many landowners are embracing conservation projects on their farmland.

Make a Difference
Our impact on the world is huge and it can feel frustrating to many who would like to make a difference. There are the obvious actions we can all take by recycling, reduce our carbon emissions and so on. But what else can we do? There are many options for people who want to make a difference, ranging from developing a greater understanding of conservation issues, supporting local arts and crafts.
